| Name: |
Kiddo |
| Description: |
The most famous cat to be named Kiddo was a gray male tabby who was
included in the crew complement aboard the airship America. This
dirigible attempted in 1910 to cross the Atlantic, departing from
Atlantic City, but after 3 days of difficulties the crew and Kiddo
abandoned the airship for rescue at sea by the steamship Trent. It
was to be another 9 years before another cat made a transatlantic
crossing attempt by airship, this time in the British R-34 which
sucessfully crossed over in 1919 with a female named Wopsey. She was
subsequently renamed Jazz by an adoring American public. |
